Melbourne is a UNESCO City of Literature and in fact,
the second city in the world to achieve this distinction.
So what a great place to find some of the best Literary
writers and bookshops! Of course the hidden nature of
the Laneways and Alleys is a feature that has been
written about from Fergus Hume (Mystery of the
Hansom Cab') in the 19th Century
to Sophie Cunningham ('Melbourne') today. Cost here...
The MELTours formula is to design a tour around
a given subject and provide a varied commentary.
In this tour we examine various literary subjects and styles from yesteryear
right up to what is hip and happening right now. All located
in the city and an easy walk between each stop.
You never know what surprises are in store week to week.
Your tour will snake through the secret laneways
and arcades to find out how writers first started to
highlight our famous laneways, the fictional stories around
the Gold Rush and 19th Century land speculation to
stops where you, the participant, may be involved in our tour commentary!
Jenny Davies, author of the book Beyond the Façade: Flinders Street, more
than just a railway station, on tour.
