History and Laneways Tour - East

History and Laneways Tour - East
There is so much History in Melbourne that a historical walking tour has now been created for the eastern part of the Melbourne CBD. The 'Prostitutes and Parliament' Tour is conducted through what was the newer and less expensive side of Hoddle's city grid in the 1840s that became a very sought after area later in the 19th Century. Cost here...

From the start of the tour, your guide will take you from Federation Square and quickly immerse you in the historical building and laneways towards the Treasury Building and the Little Lon area - the former infamous red light district where the stolen Parliament Mace allegedly was! See a public building with provisions for sniping on a rowdy population!

The tour is available Tuesday to Sundays at 2pm. Unlike the Western History and Laneways tour, we can offer this on the weekend as well! Visit a grand old Coffee Palace formally a showcase of the Temperance movement. Get an exclusive look at Quest Serviced Apartment's Gordon House previously used for male actors' accommodation!

The tour finishes at Pelligrini's cafe where tour attendees can have a coffee and discuss the diverse and interesting local history in the first Cafe in Melbourne.

Housekeeping
All guides are First Aid Level 2 qualified but please notify us if you have any outstanding health issues. Some stairs are involved with the tour but can be avoided if requested due to health concerns. Controlled pedestrian crossings are used at all times except when crossing small laneways where we look out for your safety.

The History and Laneways Tour - East usually starts on at Federation Square or other venues close by. This is a walking tour so wear suitable footwear and please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure the tour starts on time. It takes at least 2 hours and is limited from a minimum of 2 to 20 people maximum.

Note due to the nature of our tours, we only cater for those with disabilities or families with children younger that 13yo via our Private Tours. Also see the ' Banks and Bullion' History Tour or the ' Lawyers and Library' History Tour.
